Imaging

Upload photographs, radiographs and scans to the patient record, link them to teeth, view and compare them, and archive what is no longer needed.

The Images / X-rays tab stores photographs, radiographs and scans as part of the clinical record. Images can be linked to teeth so they appear on the charts, and viewed side by side to compare change over time.

Before you start

  • Maxillo accepts JPEG, PNG, WebP and PDF files up to 60 MB each. DICOM files are not supported yet; export a JPEG or PNG from your imaging software first.
  • There is no direct connection to imaging hardware. Files are added by uploading them.

Steps

  1. Open the patient and choose the Images / X-rays tab.
  2. Press Upload. Drag files onto Drag & drop or click to select, or click it to choose files.
  3. Set the shared details for this batch: Image type (for example Bitewing, Periapical, OPG, Intraoral photograph or Scan), Acquisition date and Clinician.
  4. Under Link teeth, click each tooth the images relate to. Linked images appear in that tooth's panel on both charts.
  5. Check the title shown for each file and edit it if needed. Remove any you did not mean to add.
  6. Press Upload, then Close when every file shows a tick.
  7. For files exported from imaging software, use Import instead. The Import images dialogue works the same way, takes up to 50 files at once, and records where each file came from.

What happens next

The strip at the top counts Radiographs and Photos & scans, and shows the date of the latest radiograph. Use Search images…, All types, All clinicians and All teeth to filter, and switch between grid and list views.

Click any image to open the viewer. Prev and Next move through the set; the left and right arrow keys do the same. Zoom in and out, Fit, Rotate, Bright, Contrast and Reset adjust the view only; the original file is never changed. Save view keeps your preferred settings for that image. Compare opens a second image alongside, with Sync zoom, Swap and Exit compare. Fullscreen enlarges the viewer.

The Details panel shows the type, acquisition and upload dates, clinician, linked teeth and anything the image is linked to, such as an appointment, clinical note, referral or treatment. To open a tooth's images from the charts, right-click the tooth on the Odontogram and choose Images / X-rays, or use Open Images / X-rays for this tooth in the Advanced Chart tooth panel.

Common problems

  • The file was refused — check the format and size. Only JPEG, PNG, WebP and PDF up to 60 MB are accepted.
  • I cannot see an image I know is there — it may be archived. Press the Active button in the toolbar so it reads Archived. Open the image and choose Restore to bring it back.
  • The image should not be in the active record — open it and choose Archive. Nothing is deleted; archived images are kept and can be restored.
  • A PDF shows a placeholder — choose Open PDF in the viewer to read the full document.
