The Odontogram tab is Maxillo's own dental chart. You record conditions per tooth or per surface, mark each as existing, planned or completed, and keep saved versions to look back on. This article covers day-to-day charting.
Before you start
- Open the patient and choose the Odontogram tab.
- Decide which chart you are using this session. The Advanced Chart saves the whole chart at once and can overwrite changes made here since it was opened, so chart in one place at a time.
Steps
- Choose an Entry mode. PD charts existing conditions on the permanent teeth and DD on the deciduous teeth. PTD and DTD are treatment modes, where new charting is recorded as planned treatment.
- Click a tooth to select it. Click surfaces on the tooth to narrow the selection, or use the arrow keys and the M O D B L keys on the keyboard. Shift-click adds more teeth to the selection.
- For common items, use the Quick strip: Decay, Composite, Crown, Missing, Extraction and Root Canal are one click each.
- For anything else, pick a condition in the treatment panel on the right. Conditions are grouped as Pathology, Status, Prosthetic, Restoration and Endodontics.
- Set the status to existing, planned or completed. Fill in the Date, Cost (£), Clinician and, where offered, Material. Add a note in Notes… if useful.
- Press the Add button. With several surfaces or teeth selected the button reads, for example, Add Composite × 3 and charts them all in one go.
- For a bridge, select the abutment teeth together with shift-click before you add it, so the span is charted at once.
- Right-click a tooth for the shortcut menu: Status, Diagnosis and Images / X-rays for that tooth.
- Made a mistake? Use the undo button or Ctrl/⌘ Z, or delete a single entry from the tooth's list in the panel.
- To keep a snapshot, choose Save version, give it a Label such as "Pre-treatment baseline", optionally link a Treatment plan or Appointment, add a Note and choose Save.
What happens next
Each entry is saved as soon as you add it. The Completed and Planned layers can be switched on or off under Show. The Timeline steps back through the chart by appointment or saved version; historical views are read-only. Choose Now or Back to now to return to the live chart.
Planned items from the Treatment plan tab appear on their teeth. A signed note that mentions charting shows a Charting suggested from notes panel above the chart, to Approve or Dismiss.
Common problems
- The chart is blank — check the dentition toggles. If neither Completed nor Planned is on, the chart shows nothing. If no entry mode is active, the message "Toggle a dentition layer above to start charting" appears.
- I cannot chart anything — you are viewing a past version. Choose Now to return to the live chart.
- My change disappeared after using the Advanced Chart — a save from the Advanced Chart replaces the whole chart. Re-enter the item here, and use one chart per session in future.
