The Treatment plan tab holds one or more plans for the patient. Each plan lists items from the practice's own treatment catalogue, or custom lines, with a tooth, a status and a price.
Before you start
- Items come from the catalogue set up under Treatments in Settings. If the list reads "No approved services yet", ask a manager to add or approve treatments first.
- Some catalogue items do not have a single price. See the Pricing modes article for how from, range and Quote required items are confirmed.
Steps
- Open the patient and choose the Treatment plan tab.
- Type a name in New plan name (e.g. Phase 1 — restorative) and press New plan.
- Make sure the plan you want to add to is active. Click its title; the header shows adding here next to the total.
- Find the treatment in the Treatment list below. Use Search treatments, codes… or the category chips, and star items to keep them under Favourites. Press the plus button next to a treatment to add it to the active plan.
- For something not in the catalogue, use the row at the bottom of the plan: choose a tooth or leave No tooth, type the name in Custom item…, enter the amount in the £ field and press Add.
- Link each item to a tooth using the tooth selector on its row. Linked items are shown on the Odontogram for that tooth.
- Keep each item's status current: planned, in progress, completed or cancelled.
- Where an item shows Confirm price, agree the final figure with the patient, press Confirm price, enter the amount and press Confirm.
- Set the plan's overall status with the selector in its header: draft, active, completed or archived.
What happens next
The plan header shows the number of items and the total. Only items with a confirmed single price are added up; the rest are counted separately, for example £1,250 · 2 to confirm. Items marked completed feed the patient's Treatment progress on the Overview tab and their charges on Invoices & payments.
Planned findings on the Advanced Chart can be sent to a plan with Add to plan. A signed clinical note that proposes treatment shows a Plan items suggested from notes panel above the plans, to Approve or Dismiss.
To see plans across all patients, open Treatment plans from the main navigation and use Search by patient or plan name….
- A patient who uses the patient portal sees an active plan as proposed to them and can accept it there; the plan then shows as accepted by the patient. Accepting is not consent — consent is signed with the clinician.
Common problems
- The plus button added the item to the wrong plan — the other plan was active. Remove the item with the cross on its row, click the correct plan's title so it shows adding here, and add again.
- "This treatment's price is not set up correctly in Settings → Treatments" — the catalogue entry has a price shape that does not match its mode. Ask a manager to correct it under Treatments.
- The total looks too low — some items still need a confirmed price. Look for to confirm in the header and Confirm price on the rows.
